This project was undertaken to widen an existing sharp hairpin turn on a steep slope section of the
pass. This project was done in conjunction with Gibb and the Client, Western Cape Government
Department of Transport and Public Works.
Some of the key features of this project were:
- Unfavourable and highly variable geotechnical conditions on a steep slope.
- Challenging founding conditions.
- Stabilisation of the exposed slopes during construction to allow continual vehicle access.
- Design of permanent retaining wall system in conjunction with horizontal anchorages
systems.
