Kantey & Templer Gauteng is in the process of reviewing candidates to fill a Position: Environmental Scientist (Johannesburg) Section: Contamination.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting environmental and contaminated land assessments, including site investigations, groundwater studies, sampling, monitoring, remediation planning, and environmental compliance audits. They will compile technical reports, environmental applications, and regulatory documentation, while ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and authorization requirements. The role will also involve preparing project safety files and reviewing contractors’ safety files.
The position requires a proactive and detail-oriented professional who can effectively work across multiple business units, foster continuous improvement initiatives, and support management in achieving environmental, health, and safety objectives.
Skills:
- Compile Applications for Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments or Environmental Licenses.
- Compile Basic Assessment and, Environmental Impact Assessments Reports and supplementary information.
- Conduct Public Participation.
- Update and maintain all project-related documentation.
- Conduct liaison with all Interested and Affected Parties.
- Communicate with relevant authorities.
- Attend Project Meetings.
- Compile an ECO Reports.
- Understand and communicate the conditions of the Environmental Authorization to the Project Team.
- Regular site visits to monitor environmental compliance onsite.
- Communicate with relevant authorities.

- Update the Section Leader and Environmental Scientist on project progress and any non- compliances.
- Filing of all project correspondence promptly.
- Compile minutes of meetings.

- Follow-up upon job completion with regard to compiling and sending all necessary documentation to ensure payment is made by Client.
- Assist with workload forecasting, budgeting and proposal submissions, leading the juniors.

- Assist in duties allocated from the Health and Safety Co-coordinator for the Environmental Section.
- Conduct inspections.
- Duties associated with the implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System.
- Responsible for conducting toolbox checks, inspections on sites to ensure HSE standards are maintained and SOP’s are followed.
- Compile Site Assessment Reports for contaminated sites (Phase 1 and 2).
- Compile Tier 1 and 2 Reports.
- Calculate groundwater flow direction.
- Update reports following review by management.
- Preparation of Remediation Action Plans.
- Preparation of Part 8 applications.
- Data capture and analysis.
- Conduct bail down sampling.
- Conduct Groundwater Survey.
- Conduct Hydro census.
- Conduct slug testing.
- Conduct soil vapour sampling and testing.
- Conduct hand augering.
- Conduct air quality sampling and monitoring.
Prior Learning / Special Skills:
- Driver’s License.
- GIS skills are preferable.
- AutoCAD skills are preferable.
Computer Literacy:
- Fully experienced in MS Office suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Google Earth
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Environmental Science / Management / Geology
