Position Outline:

Kantey & Templer is looking for an Engineering Draughtsperson – Senior Section: Petrochemical based in Cape Town. This position provides for excellent long-term career progression at a well-established multi-disciplinary consulting firm.

Experience:

  • More than 5 years’ experience in relevant industry as Draughtsperson.
  • Must have AutoCAD 2D & 3D experience.
  • Proficient in 2D & 3D software.

Skills:

  • Develop and check system design CAD files or drawings in conformance with project specifications, scope of work, design parameters, codes, and industry practices.
  • Review project specifications, administrative and technical practices, design instructions, plot plan, flow diagrams, and supplier information.
  • Communicate and interface with other project design and engineering disciplines.
  • Draw and update material and stress sketches.
  • Check other departments’ design drawings and supplier equipment drawings.
  • Prepare material take-off and procurement specifications/requisition, evaluate vendor’s offers, issue technical queries, and prepare recommendations for purchase order placement. Knowledge of applicable API, ASTM, ASME, etc. standards is required for material selection and specification.
  • Check, back check, and correct manual/computer drawings and isometrics.
  • Report progress to the project piping area/unit supervisor.
  • Update master flow diagrams.
  • Assist in the drawing up of Process and Instrumentation drawings for new or existing plants.
  • & I.D.’s of existing facilities to be prepared.
  • Carry out piping / design and preparation of general arrangement drawings, elevations, section views and detailed isometrics.
  • Perform manual/computer layouts using specifications, standard drawings, design instructions, plot plan, flow diagrams, line list and supplier information.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings with good insight.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Support the piping design team in preparing 2D and 3D piping drawings, isometrics and general arrangements.
  • Perform basic pipe routing under supervision, including consideration of support locations, access, and maintainability.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive attitude.
  • Prepare and review detailed piping layout drawings, isometric drawings, general arrangements (GA), and supports.
  • Translate P&IDs and engineering specifications into practical piping design solutions.
  • Perform 3D modelling of piping systems in coordination with structural and mechanical disciplines.
  • Carry out clash detection and resolve spatial coordination issues using 3D model reviews.
  • Strong knowledge of piping components, specifications, and systems.

Qualifications:

  • National Diploma or Draughting Certificate
  • Piping Design Certificate

Computer Literacy:

  • AutoCAD 2D & 3D.
  • Proficient in 2D & 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, Plant 3D, PDMS, E3D, SmartPlant, CADWorx).
  • Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Personality Profile:

  • Good communication skills (graphic, written and verbal).
  • Strong team ethic.
  • Independent.
  • Proactive.
